Cocopeat

Overview

Cocopeat, also known as coir pith, is a byproduct of the coconut industry and is becoming increasingly popular as a growing medium for plants. It is made from the fibrous husk of coconuts, which are processed to extract the long fibers used for products such as mats and brushes. The leftover material, which was previously discarded, is now used to make cocopeat. Cocopeat is a brown, spongy material that has excellent water retention properties and can hold up to 10 times its weight in water. It is also lightweight and airy, allowing for good drainage and aeration of plant roots. Cocopeat is a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to traditional peat moss, which is harvested from bogs and can have negative impacts on the environment. In addition to its use as a growing medium, cocopeat is also used as a soil amendment to improve soil structure and water holding capacity.
